You may recall the problem many of us were having getting our molds to release a few months ago and the concern by some that it was related to using the relative thin Ultra Chic porcelain. I had the same problem, frequently pouring in the morning and having to leave the casting in the mold over night before it would release. However, I tried using some left over Seeley’s and Bell’s porcelain as well to see if that made any difference, and it didn’t, so I decided that my molds were just too damp due to the rainy weather.
Well, I’m very pleased to be able to report that I’m in the midst of pouring ten dolls for a doll class that will be starting shortly, and am not having a bit of trouble getting those same molds to release! And I’m using the same batch of Ultra Chic that I was using last winter. So it does indeed appear that my molds were too damp. I would have thought that having them stored in the house would have prevented that problem. True, we were keeping the house fairly cool with our heat pump set at 67 or 68 degrees, but just because the heat was low, it doesn’t mean that the air would be all that damp. But whatever the cause, once we finally got past the long, wet spring and into the warmer days of summer, it was no longer a problem for me. I hope that’s true for the rest of you who were frustrated by the same issue.
Warm weather ends mold problems
