The Oregon Ceramics Association is busy with monthly meetings, planning for a bigger and better 51st Annual Ceramics, Doll & Craft show for March, 2010. This group has long been dedicated to the art of making ceramics as a family oriented endeavor and is currently seeking innovative ways to encourage new folks to give it a try. Of course the meetings aren’t all work, and no play … we all know that’s not a good way to go, so a barbecue or potluck thrown in helps keep the ideas flowing.

OCA1Like most craft and doll shows, the annual show put on by this group has taken a hit both because of the economic climate and the fact that many current ceramic enthusiasts are aging, and finding it difficult to continue making ceramics. We are looking to the younger generations to find our future artists. Have you tried doing ceramics? Maybe even taken your child to one of those places where they can paint something and have it fired?

OCA3There is something very satisfying in producing a work of art. It teaches patience, a sense of self worth, develops creativity, respect for the work of others, and draws the family together when they share a positive craft like this one. And it isn’t all that expensive to do. So come and meet the owners of many of our local Ceramics Studios. You will find them eager to share their enthusiasm and skills with you. Some also teach children and help them make gifts for family members.OCA4Some teach porcelain doll making as well as ceramics, so you can produce your own beautiful, hand-made items to grace your home.

Watch this site for further information about the annual show and come check us out. You will find many local artisans under one roof who can guide you in purchasing the items needed for your projects. And bring the kiddies along. We hope to have something special for them as well.

OCA5If you would like an opportunity to display your wares, the Association will be happy to jury your handmade items, and are offering really large booths (about 10’X10’) at half price for newcomers, which is really a good deal! This includes Doll Makers and Crafters as well. There is also a porcelain doll competition, and we urge you to enter your dolls for a fun and instructive experience. The judges are fair and experienced, and you will be glad you participated.

If you know Louise Luton, from “Dolls Beautiful”, please ask her to e-mail me. She used to be my sister-in-law. She sent me her new home address
and I have lost it.

Thank You.
