The Bay Area Doll Club of Texas presented its fourth annual Spring into Summer Doll Festival 2010 and D.A.G. Qualified Competition at the Hobby Airport Marriott Hotel, March 25-27, 2010. The Festival featured international vendors, make-and-takes in the salesroom, workshops, lectures, and the competition exhibit. The lectures for the Festival were very informative and enjoyed by many. They were: Terrie Strohecker’s “Pictorial Review of Gebruder Heubach Dolls”, Barbara Wilczynski’s “Half the Fun of Half Dolls” and Sue Mitchell’s “Victoria Fashions 1890-1896”. Girl Scouts from the San Jacinto Council Troops attended a sock doll workshop that allowed the girl scouts to complete their requirements towards the GSSJC Doll Collecting Program Patch. Thursday evening featured a reception with jazz singing by Nada Christensen. Friday evening banquet featured Kathy Monier with her lecture and presentation of the souvenir doll, Simon & Halbig 949, the awards banquet and a live auction of a variety of items including dolls by well known doll artisans. There also was a costume parade with the award going to Claudia Smith.

The Doll Artisan Competition was intense this year. The Mille was won by Celia Desmond of Canada for her wonderful Bru and the Magge was won by Shirley Ann Taylor with her Diane Effner doll. Best of Show Antique trophy was awarded Pat Boldt and Best of Show trophy for Modern was Shirley Ann Taylor. Rosettes for Best of Category went to Shirley Ann Taylor, Celia Desmond, Pat Boldt, Beverly Penney, Glendolyn Alkas, Debbie Adkins, and Pennie Batycki. The Judge’s Choice awards went to Gloria Werner, Emi Yamaguchi, Claudia Smith and Celia Desmond. The Special Theme Award went to Debbie Adkins. People’s Choice went to Donna Pilkenton.

Master of Ceremonies Sheryl Williams, as Senior Judge and Doll Artisan Guild Representative, presided over the awards ceremony. Master of Dollmaking titles were presented to Debbie Adkins, Gloria Werner, Andrea Hammer, Emi Yamaguchi and Wendy Cotterill. Shirley Ann Taylor, Claudia Smith and Pat Boldt were awarded Grand Master of Dollmaking titles. Gwen Wood was awarded the title of Triple Crown of Dollmaking. Also awarded to Rebecca Hisle and Linda Wall was the title of Master of Dollmaking Educator.

Hi, The Sock Doll Workshop that the San Jacinto Council participated in sounds wonderful. I have a 9 y/o daughter in GS and I would like to organize a similar event for her troop to also get their Doll Collecting Patch. Is there a pattern you could share for this? Any help would be fabulous. Thank you, Terese
