Thanksgiving is almost here and we all knows what comes after that! Many of us are busy with our holiday projects and are already planning and making our gifts, not to mention all of you who are working on your inventory for Holiday Bazaars, so now is a good time to stock up on supplies, and most especially when they are on sale! THE PORCELAIN PLACE is having a nice one day sale on China paints including Shimmer Metalic Kits and Shimmer Mate Glitter Kits. Check out the sales flyer below and see if there is anything there that you can use.

Well … DANG ME …

by Karen Ryan on 11/17/2011

Saturday was a total waste of time! And it didn’t turn out this way because of a lack of planning. You read the article below about the doll show scheduled to take place in Roseville today, right? We went to bed early last night in the hopes that I wouldn’t go around nauseated all day today … something that always happens if I get up before eight in the morning … and I did manage to wake up and get dressed at a reasonable time, had a bowl of cereal and a cup and a half of lukewarm coffee, grabbed my camera, tucked the pups in the back of the car and hit the road with my husband behind the wheel.

Roseville Doll Show this weekend

by Karen Ryan on 11/09/2011

Here we are, on the road at last on our way to nowhere in particular and doing just what we want to do. And right away we have the chance to drop in on a doll show that we haven’t been able to attend for awhile, the Crossroads Doll and Teddy Bear Show and Sale which will be held at the Roseville, California Fairgrounds as usual. I’m really looking forward to it!

I’m not sure what makes this doll show different, but somehow it is. Everyone seems to be glad to be there, both the vendors and the visitors, and everyone takes time to chat with old friends and strangers alike. It’s easy to get to know new people and vendors go out of their way to help visitors find what they are looking for, even if it’s at someone else’s booth. It’s a group of doll lovers who enjoy sharing their craft. You just can’t help but enjoy being a part of it. I hope I’ll see you there.

Here is a message from Kimberly in Allen, Texas. She has dolls molds to give away. If you are anywhere in the area and can take these off her hands, it would be great. Let’s keep them from ending up in the dump! If you have any space at all, take them in and pass them on when you get the chance!

I can’t tell you have many I have, but it is probably close to 50 doll molds. I received them for free when I purchased a Paragon kiln from a friend of mine. They are in all shapes and sizes, heads, bodies, arms, legs. Great condition. They are all WHITE. I am assuming for porcelain dolls. They are FREE to whomever will come pick them up. I really thought I’d get around to using them for fun with my daughter, but it just is not happening. I live 15 minutes northeast of McKinney Texas in Allen.

Jennifer in Edmond, Oklahoma writes:

My grandmother was quite the doll artist in her day, but her memory has deteriorated to the point she no longer remembers how. I have dozens of her doll molds available for anyone who wants them. I am located in Edmond, Oklahoma. Weekends are definitely better so email me if you want to come pick them up.

3rd Annual Lebanon Oregon Doll Show

by Karen Ryan on 10/18/2011

Mark your calendar and get ready to go! November 5th is the date of the next Lebanon Doll Show. Everyone who attended the last two shows came away excited about the fun atmosphere and the variety of things to admire and purchase. Be there and be early! Doors will be open from 9 am to 5 pm at the old Safeway store at 75 East Ash Street, located between Park & Main Streets. It’ll be well marked with sandwich board signs that day to help all you out of towners find it easily..

Tickets are $2, and children under 9 years get in free.

If you have been undecided about renting a table it may not be too late to do so, or at least get on the cancellation list even if the space is all spoken for! Table rental is $30 for an 8 ft table,

by Karen Ryan on 10/13/2011

I just recently heard from Marge Bliss in North Bend, Washington and want to share this with you. She has free molds for any interested doll maker to pick up at her home as well as some wigs and supplies to sell at discounted prices. If you live in that area and are interested in seeing what she has, please send her an email. Her message follows:

My mother in Law passed away and we have about 150 porcelain molds . Some I have identified , Prince William; Newborn S-645; Regina B-246; Seeley; Carnie VE-104B; German Googley USE-104-B 18’Ronnie/Tina30202 head; Just Me ; Colette and many more. Also have body parts . The molds and body parts are free and need to be picked up.
Also have wigs, glass eyes, and misc doll making items as well as all the grommets and string for assembly. As far as the wigs and misc stuff for assembling I thought I might be able to get something for them as they have price tags of $20-$30.00 on them from 15 years ago and are in perfect condition. Make an offer for these.

The International DAG Convention will be held in Denver this coming October and The Porcelain Place is holding two very special seminars the Monday and Tuesday before the Convention so make plans to come early. Our seminars will be held on Monday and Tuesday October 17th and 18th. A mountain trip to Historic Georgetown is planned for Wednesday October 19th and the show itself is October 20-22. We will be utilizing both of our classrooms so that both Marilyn Thompson and Tony Tanner will be able to teach special workshops.
