I just received the newsletter detailing some of the activities planned for attendees at the upcoming 2010 International Doll Makers Association Convention which is scheduled to take place July 28th – 31st in Scottsdale, Arizona. This year’s theme will be “Remembrance of Love”, and the variety of fascinating workshops being planned totally makes me drool! We were finally able to find a pre-loved travel trailer that we feel will meet our needs, and may actually be able to attend this year, and I think we’ve picked the perfect year to be there! I’ve gotta get my membership fee in the mail in a hurry so I can qualify to attend – I’m running a bit behind schedule on that!
Joyce Murch, a well know pioneer in the doll world and a popular teacher of doll making, sculpting and antique doll restoration will be teaching the 2010 Speciality Workshop, “Remembrance of Love” in half day sessions Wednesday through Friday. Wait until you see her Olympia Bridal Doll! She can only take 15 students, so do sign up as soon as possible.
Some of the other workshops to be offered will include learning to make a leather body for a 7” Bru and a gorgeous display “wedding cake” covered with laces and trims and topped with a hand painted porcelain bride and groom. Obviously, this is not a real, edible cake! You can learn to make porcelain flowers to decorate your dolls, or jewelry for yourself that will tell the world at a glance that you are a doll lover, or a reproduction of a rare German sewing shoe to hold your sewing equipment, or a Kestner baby pincushion. Shoe lovers will make Victorian style leather fashion boots for a lady doll under the guidance of an expert shoemaker from New Zealand, or work on a beautiful corset with our own Terrie Strohecker from Maryland, or an elegant privacy screen.
Half doll lovers will also find plenty of projects to tickle their fancy, like parasols that look like fancy dressed dolls, candy boxes, and wedding coronets. I absolutely fell in love with the picture of one of these parasols, and I urge you to take a look at the pictured projects at the IDMA website at http://idmadolls.com. You’ll also be able to renew your membership and register for the Convention and the various workshops from their website as well. Be sure to check it out!

Can please email us more information on your up coming convention for vendor sale tables etc.?
Kind Regards,

The link to the IDMA site in the article is working, but their site remains too dark to reak for quite awhile. I’m emailing you some contact information for them.
Can you tell me if you have to be a dollmaker in order to attend?
Tks
Yes, you do need to be a member, but you can just go ahead and join at any time by going to the IDMA website at https://idmadolls.com/index.html. It seems to take awhile for the site to load and may just appear black at first. I got impatient and clicked “enter” a couple of more times and suddenly the site worked properly. That may have been a coincidence, but you might try it if you have trouble.
If you go to the IDMA web page http://www.idmadolls.com you can print off the forms for the salesroom contract, membership form, registration forms for convention and luncheons. The web page with the workshops are on the web page as of January 2010. Hope everyone can come and join us for a wonderful convention, we always have lot of fun at these convention.
Thanks,
Sue
