You know how you keep promising yourself that you’re finally going to cut down on the amount of doll stuff you have in your stash at home, and then you go to another doll show, and … well you just up and buy a bunch more stuff? Well, that’s what happens to me every single time I go to the Roseville doll show! And my husband doesn’t help one darn bit! If I do manage to walk away from something that I see and want, and then mention it to him, he sneaks back and buys it for me! So I just stopped pointing out things I liked. I mean, one of us has to keep his head, right?
The last time we had gone to the Roseville Doll Show I waited until we were home to talk about what I liked. In fact, I didn’t even actually tell him! I mentioned in an article for Yakkity Yak that I had seen some Terri Lee dolls, and how much I had wanted one when I was a kid. I also mentioned a really cute Teddy Bear purse that I had seen there, and wouldn’t you know it, he went through the dealers cards that I had picked up at the show, searched through the article again to find out which dealer had the items I mentioned and called up and ordered them for me! I love that he likes to surprise me with things he knows I’ll like, but we only have room for so much stuff.

Anyway, back to the latest show on February 20th! Yes, I know that was awhile ago, but immediately after the show we tried to take the first real vacation we’ve had in years and naturally we both got sick. Hubby was sick for the first two days out. Just long enough that I had to learn to pull our travel trailer by taking it through the mountains and down into California. Then I got sick, and since I have chronic asthma, it settled in my lungs. Long story short, after a week and a half of hacking my head off and hitting my emergency inhaler 8-10 times a day, we packed it in and came home, and I’m just now able to get around somewhat normally and breathe while I’m doing it! So the article about the Roseville Doll Show was kind of put on hold until I could decide whether or not I was going to live.

The Show! Well, this time I decided I not only wasn’t going to buy a thing, but I wasn’t even going to let Hubby see me looking at anything, just in case he might go nuts again and spend our vacation money on foolishness. I was really doing well, too, while we were getting our hands stamped, and all the way through the lobby, and when we registered for the door prizes. You’d have been proud of me! And then we walked through the door onto the sales floor. Wouldn’t you know it! The very first thing I clapped my eyes on was a little Even Heat Rapid Fire kiln. You know, the kind that sets on your counter top, doesn’t take much electricity, and can fire a china painted head in about seven minutes flat? I’d been trying to track a couple of those down without success, and had about given up, and just when I was trying to be so good, there it was! And cheap, too! And not only that, the same dealer had a good supply of cork pates, some of which I needed for my doll class, AND a bunch of magazines I hadn’t read, which I really didn’t need at all, but which I bought anyway!
Well, what can I say … once you fall off the wagon , you’re off, so I went ahead and splurged on vintage lace, not that I don’t have several drawers full at home already! And then to top it all off, a couple whose mom had passed away had arranged to meet us there and pass on a few of her doll things, which turned out to be boxes full of interesting stuff. So I went home with a SUV full of stuff again.

How is it that some doll shows are worse than others that way? Every time you go, you just get into more trouble? The Roseville Show is like that. They always have a bunch of stuff I can’t pass up. If it keeps up like this, I’m thinking we’ll have to let the doll stuff have the house and we’ll just move into the travel trailer! So the next time there’s going to be a Roseville Doll Show, why don’t you get yourselves over there and buy a bunch of stuff before I see it and save me from myself?
