Doll Show at Center 50 +

by Karen Ryan on 12/27/2009

DSCN2508The Center 50 + chose December 24th to honor their senior members with a lovely, free Christmas dinner. The meal was sponsored by Comcast and prepared by the Center 50 + Chef, who also, along with his assistants, prepares the meals for the local Meals-on-Wheels outreach, as well as the lunchtime meal for Seniors which is served Monday thru Friday at the Center. Dinner was followed by Christmas Carols, and a movie. As part of the Christmas celebration, the students from the Beginning Doll Makers classes were asked to display their dolls for everyone to enjoy.

DSCN2518The students had been looking forward to having an opportunity to show off their work, and worked hard to get their latest dolls finished, but since the display was scheduled for the 24th, and many of the dolls were made as Christmas gifts for granddaughters, some were already wrapped and on the way to their new little mistresses by the time the show was scheduled to take place, so there weren’t as many dolls available as we had hoped. Anyway, we thought you might enjoy seeing those that were there. Many of these were their first or second attempts at doll making, and I think they all did very well!

DSCN2521A few of my dolls were included to beef up the show a bit as examples of dolls that the students might choose to make in the future, and we’re happy to say that there was a good deal of interest expressed by potential students, a number of whom promised to sign up for the next class. The students will register at the 50 + Senior Center, pay their tuition, and choose their doll on January 5th at 6:30 pm, and starting the next week, classes will meet on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 – 8:30pm. We’re looking forward to resuming our classes at the Starlight Mobile Park on Monday afternoons as well, and meeting the new students who will be joining us in both classes!
